Big day today – 36 holes.
We started on the Eden Course which has a reputation of being one of the easier of the St. Andrews Trust tracks. More challenging than we thought and quite enjoyable. Caddy David from yesterday’s round at Jubilee must have recognized easy marks so he showed up to provide his services for the morning round. Some light rain just towards the end of our round, but pretty comfortable weather most of the morning. Don & Ron score ‘Champ Moir’ points for their victory in this ‘Stableford Match’ round. Best shot goes to Don for his incredible birdie putt on #7. Don also wins low net with a 74.
After lunch at the Eden Clubhouse, it’s on to the main event – the Old Course. WOW. Something we all have dreamed about for years. We are joined by a John, a grizzled old senior forecaddie and enjoy a sunny, but cool round. It’s bunker city. Big time. Some wild holes. We heard one of the best caddy quotes of the trip when coming up the par 5 #14. When asked about which line to follow, John says: ‘Well, this is when it gets interesting’.
Dick & Bill score ‘Champ’ points for the Better Ball round. Best shot goes to Ron with his blind 180-yard shot to the green for a birdie. Honorable mention goes to Ron’s 85-yard putt into the wind. He missed, but it was impressive nonetheless. A historic first goes to Dick for losing a ball on the green. These are big greens!
> Today: lost balls (both courses) – 19; bunkers – 21
> Group totals for trip: lost balls – 70; bunkers – 100
