Fàilte gu Alba! – “Welcome to Scotland”
And, a fine welcome it was (‘fàilte mhath’ in the local dialect).
It was a long trip – Pittsburgh to Boston, a three-hour layover at Logan, Boston to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Inverness, and finally a short drive to our lodging in Nairn. Most of our luggage arrived on time – excepting Ron’s suitcase which is still somewhere between Pittsburgh and Inverness.
We are renting clubs from ‘Golf Gear for Hire’. Stuart, the owner of GGH, has driven up from Edinburgh with our rental equipment (a 3-1/4-hour drive!). We’ll drop the clubs off in Edinburgh at the end of the trip.
Nairn is a small, seaside town – a ‘Royal Burgh’. We’re staying at the Braeval Hotel, a modest place with an award-winning pub, a nice restaurant, and views of the Moray Firth. The local ‘Highland Games’ are being held in town this coming weekend (after we leave) so the park area along the beach in front of the hotel is filling up with arcades and vendor stalls.
After a long walk along the beach, a few ‘real ales’ and dinner in the Bandstand Pub this most likely will be an early evening. Our first round of golf is tomorrow at the ‘Old Moray’ course in Lossiemouth, some 20 minutes’ drive from Nairn.

Don’t leave our faeces lying around!
Oh man, that’s the worst!
Bill, please bring me back some chocolate fudge from the boardwalk and don’t room with Ron if his clothes don’t arrive soon. And if his behavior on trips is anything like his brother Rege don’t room with him at all
