First day of golf!
Play today was at the Moray Golf Club (ranked #30 world wide) on the ‘Old’ course in Lossiemouth, Morayshire, about a 20-minute drive from our hotel in Nairn. ‘Old Moray’ was built by Old Tom Morris in 1889. Our forecaddie (Ian Meggat – a great guy) described conditions as ‘pleasant’ Scottish weather by our forecaddie – light rain at times, but no wind. An RAF ‘rapid response’ force is based just across the road from the course so we were treated to regular jet fighter takeoffs & landings just over our heads. Good fun to play – well protected greens, unpredictable fairway bounces & great views of the Moray Firth coast & lighthouse. The 18th hole is considered (rightly so) one of the finest finishing holes in Scotland, 2nd only to that at St. Andrew’s Old Course.
On the way to the course our driver, Craig, takes a small detour to visit the ‘Suenos Stone’, a large Pictish standing stone on the north-easterly edge of Forres, Moray, Scotland. It is the largest surviving Pictish stone of its type in Scotland and stands over 6.5 meters high. The carvings depict depiction of a battle and a scene interpreted as a royal inauguration. Very cool.
After golf we stop for a pint at the Windswept Brewery in Lossiemouth. It’s a good story – a brewery founded by two ex-RAF pilots. The crowd is fun – 2 local chaps (Dave & Dave) who had clearly been sampling the wares for most of the afternoon struck up a spirited conversation with Bill, Ron & Don. After, Craig drives us up to Dufftown, dubbed the whiskey capital of the world. It’s a great drive along the Spey river through forest, small villages dotted with distilleries, and sheep in the road. He has arranged with a local retailer for us to try on the national uniform. Words do the experience no justice – check out the pictures. We finished up with a meal at the ‘Mash Tun’ in Abelour.
> Winner of today’s ‘Four Ball Match, Side’ is the team of Dick & Ron who are each awarded a ‘Champ Mòr’ point.
> Ron takes individual daily honors with a net score of ’75’.
> Best shot of the day goes to Don for his brilliant lob wedge on #10 to secure the first birdie of the tour.
> Group totals thus far: lost balls – 6. bunkers – 9

Thanks a lot. There are things you just cannot un-see.
There are just no words……………………..!!!! Kathleen
I want the phone number of the “little” guy on the left in the group picture. He’s wearing the red kilt(my favorite color).
You realize this photo will more than likely end up in the Sun paper someday!
Sorry honey, but after working with those guys fo so many years I’m not sure I needed to see that. BTW, what happened to Bills shoes?
I always wondered what Dad would look like in a kilt (said no daughter ever, lol)!!
Great pictures! Enjoy!!
Kinder looks a little too comfortable in a skirt. Oops, kilt.
