Our last day of golf at the Forest Dunes resort.
We played at the resort’s original course – cleverly named ‘Forest Dunes’. Built in 2002 by Tom Weiskopf, the course is perennially on the list of ‘Top 100 US’ courses and one of the top 5 in Michigan. Great conditions. The front nine winds through woodlands and the back through sand dunes. There is also a ‘bonus’, par-3 across water featuring a sand trap in the middle of the green. A very, very nice course.
The game for our morning round on the Dunes course was ‘Stableford’ for doubles. Each side has a ‘quota’ of points based on handicap as a target. Most Stableford points relative to quota wins the match.
> Match 1 – Ron & Dick (Bolo) vs. Terry & Don (Bozo)
> Match 2 – Mike & Kevin (Bolo) vs. Jerry & Al (Bozo)
Results were split
> Bolos up +1 in Match 1
> Bozos up +5 in Match 2
> Low Gross – Jerry @ 80
> Low Net – Dick @ 79
Our afternoon matches (in fierce conditions) were played on the Hilltop putting course. The game was ‘Alternate Stroke’, doubles. One ball is played by each side with players alternating putts until the ball is holed. Lowest total score takes the match.
> Match 1 – Dick & Kevin (Bolo) vs. Jerry & Don (Bozo)
> Match 2 – Ron & Mike (Bolo) vs. Terry & Al (Bozo)
Results were split
> Bozos take Match 1, Bolos Match 2
> Most impressive play goes to Kevin for his aggressive attempts at stymie. Sadly, his technique was somewhat ineffective (to be kind).
End of day 4 team scores:
> Bozos – 6 points
> Bolos – 13 points
The fat starter is singing!
One more last ride up to Grayling for dinner at ‘Dead Bear Brewing’. A fitting end for the day!
