Copper Rock is one of the newer courses in the area having opened in 2020. The course is located just west of Sand Hollow Reservoir below the cliffs of Hurricane. It features the world’s longest drive from check-in desk to the practice area and 1st tee along with a shared 9th/18th green. There are some great views of Pine Valley Mountain and the awe-inspiring ‘Molly’s Nipple’. The course was being set up for the LPGA Epson Tour.
Today’s game is Cha-Cha-Cha. Each member of the team plays their ball throughout the round. A three-hole rotation exists for determining how many scores are used to create the team score. On the first hole, the one low ball (net) counts as the team score. On the second hole, the two low net balls count as the team score and on the third hole, the three low net balls count as the team score.
> Jerry, Will, Ron, Tom – Chico finishes net +13
> Ed, Bill, Mike – Harpo team wins with net +5
> Kevin, Dick, Terry, Jeff – Groucho finishes net +15
Mike took the ‘Closest to Pin’ skill prize on #17.
Our afternoon game was back at Sand Hollow’s ‘Wee’ course. The game is a variation of ‘alternate’. Play is between two-man teams where each team member selects one club to use. Shots alternate between team members. Each player can only use the club he selected. No gimmies. Gilligan rules. Low score wins. More whining!
> Ron & Tom vs. Ed & Blind (Jeff) – Ron & Tom win, 30/34
> Jerry & Will vs. Jeff & Terry – Jerry & Will win, 27/30
> Kevin & Dick vs. Mike & Bill – Mike & Bill win, 27/28
Tuesday night at the Sand Hollow Grille is ‘Taco Tuesday’ – too good to pass up!
