This thing might finally happen!
In March of 2019, planning started for this golfing holiday. The original dates of play were to be the 2nd half of August, 2020. Cancelled for 2020, rescheduled to 2021, cancelled for 2021, rescheduled for 2022. Geez. We head out Monday, at last. That’s 1237 days from project concept to execution. Whew!
We’ll start on Scotland’s west coast in Ayrshire; ferry to the island of Arran and the ‘Mull of Kintyre’; cross the north channel of the Irish Sea into Northern Ireland and County Donegal in the Republic; and finish up in the Southern Hebrides (Islay).
Twelve rounds of links golf are booked – three on the mainland’s west coast, four on the Mull, one each on the islands of Arran & Islay, two in Northern Ireland, and one in Ireland proper. There’s an interesting mix of architects with Old Tom Morris, Willie Park, Harry Colt, & Willie Campbell representing the classic school and Kyle Phillips & David Kidd the more modern designs.
And, aside from golf, there’s the unpronounceable town names, ferries, midges, breakfast smokies, pints & peat. Should be interesting.
Slàinte!
