After a long drive from Pittsburgh (and a flight/overnighter for Kevin coming in from Arkansas) we met at Fred’s in Roscommon for brewskis, lunch, and what passed for an opening ceremony. Fred’s is a typical Northern Michigan roadside diner – rustic interior, friendly staff, stuffed critters on the walls (buffalo!), with the added feature of a bowling alley in the back.
The resort is just outside Roscommon. Our reservation docs came with some great directions to the property: ‘Don’t follow your GPS as you are likely to end up on logging roads’. This place is out in the sticks! It’s a nice property with large clubhouse, indoor & outdoor bars, and a range of accommodations. Our group rented two villas – Bolos in one, Bozos in the other.
Arrival at the resort was late and there was no time to get in 18 holes on one of the big courses so our first round for the week is on the Bootlegger short course.
The game is ‘Twinsies’, a match play format. Team members play as partners with each playing his golf ball tee to green. The team score is the combined score of both golfers. Lowest team score wins the hole, most holes one wins the match.
> Match 1 – Ron & Dick (Bolo) vs. Jerry & Al (Bozo)
> Match 2 – Mike & Kevin (Bolo) vs. Terry & Don (Bozo)
> Both matches ended in a 3×3 split
End of day1 team scores:
> Bozos – 1 point
> Bolos – 1 point
