The Nairn Championship course is a 20-minute walk from our hotel in the village so no need for a driver today. Nairn is a Tom Morris and James Braid design established in 1887 which has hosted numerous championships over the years, including Walker and Curtis Cups, and has a world rating of 18. Add the 2018 ‘Yinzer Open’ to the list.
The front nine follows the Moray Firth beaches and provides beautiful views of the ‘Black Isle’ and Cromardy Firth. The beach is quite wide during low tide and is not ‘out of bounds’. Our forecaddie is Frazier, a young, local chap. We worked him hard with carefully placed drives in opposite ends of the fairway as often as possible! We had some rain for the 1st half of the round with clearing skies to finish up.
After golf & a pint in the course’s pub, we took the ½ hour drive to Inverness for a short walk-about along the Ness River. The walkway along the river is quite attractive with views of numerous cathedrals & the castle. Dinner at the ‘Castle Tavern’ overlooking the Inverness Castle and some trad music at ‘Hootenany’ before returning to Nairn for our last night in town before heading north.
> Winner of today’s ‘Four Ball Stroke Match is the team of Bill & Ron who are each awarded a ‘Champ Mòr’ point.
