The manager at our hotel, No. 12, was able to book us a table at one of the villages finest restaurants, the ‘Puffin’, for a traditional ‘Sunday Roast’. Good stuff: roasted beef, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, & gravy! Fuel for the upcoming tough course.
The North Berwick Golf Club was founded in 1832 by local residents and nobles from surrounding estates. Golf has been played on the grounds since the 17th century. It has hosted final qualifying for the Open and many amateur championships. Tee bookings must normally be made at least a year in advance and fill quickly. Play here was expected to be one of the highlights of our trip.
The weather was not good. We were fortunate that our tee time was mid-afternoon as a thick haar caused the cancellation of earlier bookings. Haar is most often caused by warmer moist air passing over the North Sea. Sometimes, like now, it sits for days. At least we were able to play.
Even in the fog, the course was fantastic. For the first time, we had individual caddies (no forecaddies here). We somehow forgot to get a group picture of Iaian, David, Jamie & John. They were great.
Here’s a great bunker shot by Bill.
We ended up getting a pizza at (take a guess) Bella Italia.
