Our last day of golf.
The morning round was at Bandon Trails, designed by the firm of Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw and opened in 2005. Trails is quite a bit different from both the Bandon and Pacific Dune courses. It’s a beautiful course which winds through the coastal forest, dunes, and meadows. Mike Keiser decided to purchase the property for his resort after seeing the spectacular view from #16.
We shared breakfast at the Gallery with Messrs. Coore & Crenshaw (they’re onsite finishing up Sheep Ranch, the new course). They sat at the table next to ours.
The Bandon Trails game was individual match play
> Rick scored the game point. The dots game ended in a tie with no points awarded.
> Rick had low net (74)
> Group totals – 10 bunkers, 5 lost balls
> Best shot – Mike’s 52-yard putt!
We finished play at Trails then raced over to Pacific Dunes for our 2nd round. What a difference from the day before. Ethan estimated the winds at 40 mph – worth 4 clubs on a number of shots. Interestingly, the wind came in the opposite direction from Thursday making for an entirely different course.
The Pacific Dunes game was individual stroke play.
> Bill scored the game point. Dots to Dick. A keen observer might note this was the first point Dick scored for week.
> Bill had low net (76)
> Group totals – 27 bunkers, 8 lost balls
> Best shot – ??
We drove into Bandon town where we spent the last night of our trip at the Bandon Inn. A short walk from the inn was the Bandon Brewery – good beers & pizza. On Saturday, we headed back to Portland.
