Earlier in the year I had booked a long-delayed visit to London followed by a Belgian beer tour with extended family for early July. We had been working on this trip for years with multiple delays due to Covid and group schedules, so all were quite excited. Within days of making the non-refundable deposit for the tour I was notified that I had won the lottery (two tickets, two days each) for this year’s Open to be held at Royal Liverpool. I’d been submitting requests for Open tickets for years without luck so that was pretty exciting too!
Hmmm. The big question was what to do between the end of the family holiday in London on July 10th and our 1st Open tickets on the 19th? After more than a few pints, a proper solution revealed itself. One could easily kill a week plus by leaving London for southern Wales and golfing their way up the magnificent Welsh coast, finishing near Liverpool. Brilliant!
Alas, Mary needed to get back to the States. I contacted fellow craft beer aficionado, home brewer, Dead Head, golf addict and good buddy Kevin to gauge interest. It was a tough sell, but he took the bait.
Here’s a map and listing of the courses: Wales Golf
