Bill, Mike & I took a red-eye Air Canada flight to Edinburgh with a connection in Toronto. Not without hiccups though – we had a long delay leaving PIT, a marathon-level hike from our landing gate in Toronto to our departure gate, and a mob scene at the boarding gate for EDI.
Kevin was already in Scotland having played some interesting courses in southern Fife and met us at the Edinburgh airport. Our logistics vendor, A2B taxi, hauled us for the short ride to our lodging in North Berwick.
Too early to check in at our hotel, “No. 12”, we did a town walk-a-bout. North Berwick is a seaside town and an interesting harbor. Trusting in Mr. Elskin’s judgement, we took a short (Ha!) walk up to locate the town’s lone laundry. Beautiful views of the town, West Bay, and Bass Rock.
We weren’t sure if we’d be in shape for golf after our red-eye flight but decided to give Gullane #3 a go. Number 3 was designed by Willie Park in 1910. Short, but still a good test with great views of the North Sea. Dinner at the Ship Inn, across from No. 12.
