Our first round of the trip is at the Belvedere Golf Club in Charlevoix. The course, designed by William Watson, opened in 1926. It is considered one of Michigan’s classics and is listed as one of Golf Digests ‘Top 100 You Can Play’ and ‘6’ on Golfweek’s “Best in State” list. The course has hosted 40-plus Michigan Amateurs and now regularly attracts hickory club tournaments. It’s the place where Tom Watson grew up playing during his summers in northern Michigan.

The main game for the day is ‘System 36’, a same-day handicap system. The side game is ‘Favorite Holes’ where each player picks 3 holes before the round begins where they think they’ll have the best score relative to par.
Bill took honors for System 36 with Sarge coming in 2nd. Dick won the Favorite Hole competition.
Dinner was at Weathervane’s Restaurant. Beverages and great views were later at the rooftop ‘Hi Bar’ at the Earl Hotel.
