Considered one of the finest in Wales, the North Wales GC was founded in 1894 and is located just south of Llandudno. Play is along the coastline of West Shore Beach and the Irish Sea. We enjoyed nice views over the bay to Anglesey, the Snowdonia Mountain Range, & the Great Orme. Had to love some of the hole names: The ‘Chasm’ (#9), ‘Hades’ (#13 – a par-3 playing directly into the wind), and ‘Paradise’ (#18).
Llandudno is the largest seaside resort in Wales and was formed around a massive limestone headland known as the Great Orme. The Orme is home to a few large herds of wild Kashmiri goats that were a gift from the Shah of Persia to Queen Victoria. The goats made headlines during the Covid lockdowns as they pretty much took over the streets of Llandudno. One of the servers at our hotel said she had seen some in the hotel’s parking lot a few days earlier. That would’ve been cool to see!
After golf we took a nice walk around town and hit up the Snowdon ‘freehouse’. The pub/restaurant is one of the town’s oldest going back to the early 1800’s. They offer some fine cask ales and have an outdoor seating area with views of the Great Orme. A nice way to spend a sunny afternoon.
