We had signed up to play in the ‘Gents Open’ at the Aberdovey GC. Alas, still some rains and, more threatening, lightning forecast. The course cancelled the Open. We had only booked for a single evening at the Dovey Inn, so we left and followed the coast to our next destination in Porthmadog, about a 1-1/4 drive north. Our route took us past the Aberdovey course. Dang – it looked incredible. Bummer to miss.
The weather cleared giving us beautiful views of the coastline. Once in Porthmadog we took care of some chores – laundry, ATM, and filled a low tire. A few of the real ale pubs in town begged to be explored including the ‘Tafarn Pencei’, Red Lion & the Ship Inn. We finished at the ‘Australia’, the pub outlet for the Purple Moose brewery, one of Wales most successful micros. It was packed with both humans and dogs!
Lodging for the evening was the ‘Yr Hen Fecws’ (‘The Old Bakery’) guest house and restaurant. Unfortunately, their restaurant (best in town) was fully booked so we wandered back to the ‘Tafarn Pencei (‘Pencei’s Inn), a café bar on the harbor for dinner & pints.
